What is Picuna?

Picuna is a free and unlimited photo sharing community where you can organize photos with albums and groups. The name Picuna came from a cute llama-like animal which lives in South America.

What are albums and how can I use them?

With albums you can organize your photos. After creating an album you can link your photos to this album. During the creation process you can select an access right for this album. The access right defines who can view your album and the photos in it. You can choose out of 5 access rigths: Public, Friends and Family, Friends, Family, Private.

What are groups and how can I use them?

Groups are designed to share photos of the same topic. Only members can link photos to a group. You can either create or join a group. When creating a group you can select an access right for this group. The access right defines how members can join the group and who can view the group and the photos in it. You can choose out of 3 access rights: Public, Public with invitation, Private with invitiation. There are several ways to join a group. To join a public group navigate to the group page and click on the "Join Group" link. To join a public with invitation group the admin invites you to this group or you can request a group membership by clicking on the "Group Request" link on the group page. You will receive an email after the admin has accepted or denied your request. To join a private with invitation group the admin of the group has to invite you to this group. Once the admin has invited you will receive an invitation email. The invitation email comes with a detailed instruction how to join the group. After you have created or joined a group you will see a "Add Photos" link on the group page. There you can select the photos you want to add to this group.

What are the favorites and how does it work?

The favorites is a storage area for photos you’re interested in. To add photos to your favorites, click on the "Favorite" link below the photo on the photo page. You can use the same link to remove photos from your favorites.

How can I upload a photo?

If you have already signed up, just use the "Upload Photos" link on your profile. Then choose an album and select the photos from your hard disc. Optionally, you can choose a name, description, tags, latitude and longlitude. Please only upload photos that you have personally taken with a camera. If you leave the name field empty the album name will be taken as photo name. To locate your photos on the map click on the "Coordinates Search" link to search for the longitude and latitude. We recommend to map the photo in the place where it was taken, not over the subject of the photo. Photos with coordinates in EXIF are mapped automatically, you don't need to map them manually.

How can I add a friend or family member?

After signed in navigate to the profile of your friend or family member. Click on the "Add Friend" link next to the User Data headline. There you can choose between friend or family. Once you have clicked the submit button your friend or family member will receive an invitation email. The email contains a short instruction how to accept the invitation. Your friend or family member can also accept or deny your invitation on his/her friends page. As an alternative you can invite a friend or family member from your profile or friends page. Click on the "Invite Friend" link and enter the email. This is useful if your friend or family member hasn't created an account yet. In this case he/she will receive an invitation email. As soon as your friend or family member has accepted your invitation you can view his/her albums and he/she can view your albums depending on the access right.

How can I change my user name?

If you would like to change your user name, please contact us and include the new user name you would like to use.

How can I change my password?

To change your password, click on the "My Settings" link in the navigation bar. On the right side of the page you can change your password.

How can I retrieve my password and/or user name?

If you cannot remember what your password or user name is, please follow this link and enter your email. You will receive an email with your user name and resetted password. If you do not know what email address to enter, or have some other issue, then please contact us.
